ABI Showroom Design: A Space to Inspire
In 2016, ABI Interiors emerged as a family business, recognising a gap in the market for premium fixtures at an accessible price point.
By 2021, ABI partnered with Spaceworks to design its first international showroom, choosing Auckland’s Residium in Parnell as its location. Known as a hub for interior design and architecture, this space was the ideal setting to showcase ABI’s innovative approach to bathroom and kitchen fixtures.
A Unique Design Approach
Spaceworks set out to design a showroom that would stand apart from traditional exhibition spaces. ABI’s passion for materiality and innovation gave Spaceworks the freedom to push beyond convention and create a space that was both functional and inspiring.
Key Design Focus: A showroom that feels lived-in, inviting, and adaptable to multiple functions beyond product display.
Blending Comfort with Design Innovation
Rather than a stark showroom, Spaceworks curated a space that would exude warmth and refinement. By incorporating neutral tones, layered textures, and organic materials, the showroom creates a welcoming atmosphere.
One of the standout features is the cantilevered ceiling, designed to draw attention without overpowering the space. These elements enhance the sense of flow, subtly guiding visitors through ABI’s collection.
A Thoughtful Layout
Spaceworks ensured that every product display was seamlessly integrated into the overall aesthetic. Softened edges and curved forms replaced harsh lines, encouraging an organic and fluid shopping experience. This design allows visitors to interact with ABI’s fixtures without distraction, fostering thoughtful product selection.
Rebuilding After the 2023 Auckland Floods
In early 2023, the Auckland Anniversary floods caused significant damage to ABI’s showroom. Spaceworks quickly undertook a restoration project, carefully rebuilding and restoring the space with updated materials, fresh tiling, and enhanced details.
The result? A showroom that emerged stronger, more resilient, and more inviting than ever before.
ABI says: “The ABI showroom in Residium is a warm, inviting space for customers embarking on their design journey. It allows them to maximise their experience with us, from gaining insight into our products to finalising selections and crafting mood boards in their design consultations.
Beyond a stunning display area for showcasing our products, the showroom provides the adaptability necessary to evolve alongside our business, functioning as a working office and event space when needed.
